About Caramel and Bisou

Join Caramel the Camel and his boy Bisou as they travel through the Bible. Created by popular cartoonist Jamie Cosley, their perspectives and commentary are designed to enhance children’s Bible studies and make them laugh along the way.

The idea for Caramel and Bisou originated back in October of 2020 when a friend approached me about illustrating Bible stories for children. My mind immediately began to race, and my initial thought was to have a shepherd character who wants to be tougher than anyone else so he brags about wrangling camels as opposed to herding sheep. Caramel the camel came out almost fully realized. I had to tweak his height and weight, but overall his look was exactly as I had envisioned. Bisou took several drafts to find one that I loved. I settled on a shaggy haired boy because when my son Tyler was little, he had the shaggiest head of hair like a little surfer dude. After several months, the idea eventually evolved into a web comic. Inspired by Mr. Peabody and Sherman, I wanted to pay homage to the cartoon giants by having Caramel and Bisou simply walk through the pages of the Bible while engaging in some inconsequential and light-hearted interactions along the way. The value of learning Bible stories at a young age cannot be understated, and I hope that children will enjoy reading Caramel and Bisou as much as I love drawing them! – Jamie
